1. What you download can't be "opened". It's an executable file, and you will double click on it, and it will install PAF5.
2. If that's what you've been attempting, you might have a faulty download. You might try deleting that file and trying the download again. Make sure you're downloading the latest version of PAF (not the upgrade to PAF Companion or some other version of PAF).
It should work fine with XP.
