Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Go to the File menu, click "NEW" and create a new database. Import your previous backup into it.
I think when you loaded PAF 4.0.2 it automatically loaded your database, then you, not knowing it was already there, imported your backup. This is how you have duplicates of everyone.
You might be able to use 'Tools', 'Merge Duplicate Sources and Citations' to make some headway, but it could be easier to start over.

Good Luck,
Alfred
