I believe in using as many (different) sources as possible to provide documentation, but have never gone so far as to cite the same source over and over again (for the name, birth, death, etc. of the same individual). Rather I will use the "Individual Sources" button to cite a source that generally applies to the life of the individual.

I have always subscribed to the "fewer is better" philosophy regarding the source list, and even then I have ended up with a gazillion sources. The censuses were among the first sources that I managed to "clean up;" only the major census categories are in my source list:

1790 United States Census
1800 United States Census
---
1850 United States Census
1851 British Census
1851 Canadian Census
---
1930 United States Census

Then, each time one of these censuses is cited, the full information is entered for the individual citation: town, county, state, page, family/residence, line #, etc. -- and the full transcription of the census entry for the family is copied into the "Actual Text" if it is available.

In keeping with the "fewer is better" philosophy, I normally to a full census citation only for the head of a family, as long as the information for all family members is included. But I suppose it is better to repeat the citation for all family members.
