Clive: I upgraded to PAF 5.2.18.

According to the instructions in PAF, I still must edit each individual separately.

I exported the file. Then imported it (and gave it a new name) I have more than 50,000 names in the database. It exported all of them. The Focus Filter won't differentiate between the names. I would still have to select each person to export.

I worked with the preference settings, too.

From the Help section:
Automatically Mark Surname When Names Are Typed and Assume the Following Order. On the Individual screen, you need to designate the surname with slash marks (/), such as William Henry /Brandt/. Use these options to have the program automatically add the slash marks for you. You can specify where the surname will be.

Important: If you change the above options, the program does not change all of the names that you already typed. If surnames have been marked incorrectly, you will need to edit each individual record separately.

"If surnames have been marked incorrectly"...

I'm just too old! I'm going to turn the problem over to my technician and let him solve it.

I'll go for a walk and transcribe another cemetery while he fixes it.

Rachal Grizzle, genealogist
