Many thanks for your reply. I have now re-installed Paf4 (GetRight had to resume it 6 times in order to get the whole thing as the download kept stopping after it had done almost every 20%!!). I had made copies of all my data on floppy and for some reason only had a proper backup (.bak) of one set of data on the hard drive. I think I'm going to stick with Paf4 now that I've got access to my data again - I don't want to take any chances of messing things up again as it's been several months since I've seen my files.

Meanwhile the PAF4.GID (and its all in CAPS) is still in the prog. files, though the icon has a sort of 'ghost' appearance to it. I hope it's not going to cause any problems. If you ever find out what it is I'd love to know.
Thanks again for your help.

Chris
