Exporting GEDCOM of part of a database

My wife just began using PAF and I want to export her half of the family database. I use 5.0 and she has the latest version. So far, all attempts have resulted in the same 7853 individuals counted in each attempt. I tried starting from her and asking for all ancestors, did the same for myself, and also tried to start from her father. Simple directions (for a simple minded retiree) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
