Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Ok, Shauna, that's good. I thought they may have been using the not so friendly Family Tree Maker.

Now, what you need to do is "move" the attachment from their e-mail to your desktop, if you haven't already done that. Just locate the icon on the e-mail for the GEDCOM, and "drag" it onto a spare space on your desktop (hold down your mouse button to do this and then release it when its over the desktop.

Open your PAF program. Click FILE|NEW. This will create a new database for you. You will have to fill in the details on the screen that pops up. Once that is done, click FILE|IMPORT and on the screen that opens, "locate" the GEDCOM file now on your desktop. When you have done that, click IMPORT. The data in the GEDCOM will now be transferred into the new database you created.

When it is open, you can compare the data with the data you already have.

Lance
P.S. Try not to use all CAPITALS in your messages, unless you have a need to do that. It is considered a form of "shouting" on the Internet :-).
