If you view online images through Ancestry.com, they provide a free plug-in for Internet Explorer that allows viewing of the mrsid images. Also, www.lizardtech.com provides a free stand alone viewer at their site.

MrSid images seem to be the choice of archivists. The Library of Congress stores most original images in that format. It would be great to have a plug-in viewer as part of PAF, so file names with the extension 'sid' could be inserted in the 'add multimedia' feature.
