Linking to non-graphics files

I like the "actual image" feature that you can use in sources. I also like the "actual text" feature to a point. But many times I have semi-large text (.rtf) files that I would just like to link to, the same way that I can link to a .jpg or .bmp graphic. There doesn't seem to be any way to do it.

Yes, of course I know that I can COPY the text to the Notes, or the "actual text" field in a source. But all formatting is lost, since anything in "NOTES" and "Actual Text" are basically ASCII Text Files.

I also have some documents in .pdf ["Portable Digital Format" - Adobe Acrobat] format, which I love. Why can't I link to these documents from within PAF? This seems like the ideal format to use when scanning in an entire genealogy book.
