The Repository idea would work great except that I think that I use the program a bit differently than the norm. Most people think of Sources strictly as hard evidence such as books, newspapers, bibles and the like. I do document with hard evidence whenever possible but I have found a need to document "people" as sources as well. Genealogy normally starts with recording information from your own family anyway. In other words, I use PAF to record "working genealogy" as well as "proven genealogy". If Aunt Josie tells me that Uncle Frank died on 1 Jan 1999 then I put Aunt Josie as the source for Uncle Frank's death date. Of course I don't just plug in anything. I have to be very sure of the accuracy of the data. In this way I have all the information in one place and I know exactly where or from whom I received the information. This is why I need a place to store address/phone number and comments about the people that are sources confidentially. I really don't duplicate any records. Of course if I have hard evidence then I use the Repository however most people don't want their addresses listed so I ask and, if anything, they usually only want their email address or web site.

I like your tags idea. Great suggestion. I hadn't thought of that. That will have to do until there is an option to keep the source comments confidential. It is an extra step but having the sources listed may make it worth the effort.

I agree that I don't want to go back to PAF4 unless absolutely necessary. Progress is progress and I don't like to regress.

Yes, I did rely on undocumented behavior of PAF4 not exporting the source comments but I tested it out before relying on it and I am hopeful that in the future the PAF programmers will list not just the major changes but also the more trivial as well so that the many people that are using the program will not have any surprises.
