The default char set for exporting as GEDCOM 5.5 is now UTF-8. This produces a file where the first 3 bytes are: x'efbbbf'
Not only does this not seem correct for a UTF file, but
- some GEDCOM parsing software fails, notibly the upload software at WorldConnect
- the 5.5 standard GEDCHK fails such files.
- the 5.5 spec doesn't even cover UTF (only UNICODE
I wonder why the LDS made this the default.
Have others been effected by this problem?
