Marie S. Padgett--"Marie S. Padgett, 90, Idaho Falls (ID) formally of Mountain Home (ID), passed away Aug. 17, 1998, at the Life Care Center in Idaho Falls. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel in Mountain Home. Burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
"Marie was born Clara Marie Scannell on Jan. 26, 1908, in Davenport, Iowa and was one of eight children to Genevieve Mulvane and Florence George Scannell. She grew up in Davenport and married Walter Lee Padgett of Hagerman (ID), when they met in Phoenix, Ariz. Marie lived with her husband in Mountain Home for 30 years and in King Hill for 11 years after retiring from Mountain Home Air Force Base. She resided in Boise for 11 years after her husband's death.
"Marie worked as a seamstress in her early years and as a parachute rigger at Williams Field during WW II where she met her husband. She was a civilian supervisor of the parachute shop at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Marie volunteered at Idaho State Veterans' Home and St. Vincent de Paul in Boise.
"Marie spent the last two years of her life at Cedar Crest Retirement Center in Mountain Home and the last two months at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls. She died peacefully in her sleep. Marie was a loving and generous mother and grandmother, and all surviving members of her family will miss her.
"Marie is survived by two daughters; Dorothy Lamoureux of Boise and Marion Lansford of Idaho Falls; her four brothers, William F. Scannell of Alpha, Illinois, Henry Alonzo Scannell of Davenport, Iowa, John Edward Scannell of Joplin, MO and Joseph Scannell of Seligman, MO; her sister, Virginia Tschannen of Portland, Ore; six grandsons, Meridith Lansford, Chris Lansford, Robyn Lansford, Jim Grimes and Merle Swain, Jr. all of Boise, and Mike Swain of Nampa; her granddaughter, Valerie Grimes of Boise, and two greatgrandchildren, Nicholas Scott Lansford and Karl Grimes. She is preceded in death by her husband, (Walter) Lee Padgett; a son, Merle Swain; both parents, and two brothers, "Bud" and "Charlie" Scannell.
"Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, Aug 21, with vigil at 7 p.m. at Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel.
"In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marie's name to the Idaho State Veterans' Home, 320 Collins Rd., P.O. Box 7765, Boise, Idaho 83702 and St. Vincent de Paul, 6464 W. State, Boise, Idaho 83642."
