"Funeral services for Vivien Richards Padgett, West Plains, Mo., will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in West Plains under the direction of Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. "Mrs. Padgett passed away 7:15 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2007, in West Vue Nursing Center. She was born Sept. 13, 1912, in Oakside, Mo., to Guernsey Allen and Lulu Smith Richards. "She was united in marriage May 15, 1935, at Licking, Mo., to Ralph E. Padgett, who preceded her in death June 1, 1995, a few days after their 60th anniversary. "Vivien was a member of many civic and fraternal organizations including PEO, West Plains Library Club and Friends of the Garnett Library. She had been District Deputy Grand Matron of the Order of Eastern Star, having been a member of that organization since Oct. 15, 1929. She had received her 75-year pin of which she was very pleased. Vivien had been instrumental in the Girl Scouts of this area for over 30 years. She especially enjoyed young people, teaching the youth class of the First Presbyterian Church of Mtn. View for more than 25 years and serving as a camp counselor for several of those. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of West Plains, serving as an Elder, Deacon and member of the choir. Her life span saw many changes but she remained a modern woman throughout, embracing those changes. Aunt Vivien, Mom, Gaga loved life and was truly a woman for all seasons. "She is survived for two children, Jay R. Padgett, wife, Melinda W., West Plains, and Julia F. Padgett, Tucson, Ariz.; three grandchildren, Laura Padgett, Amy Thomas, husband, David, and Julia Maupin, husband, Andrew; five great-grandchildren, Keith and Allison Bodenhamer, Nathan and Emilia Thomas, and Elizabeth Maupin; one sister, Vera Farrow Evans; and several nieces and nephews." "Her parents; husband; one sister, Margaret Bell; and one brother, John Richards, preceded her in death. "Visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, at Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery.
