Paddock Family Genealogy Forum
I'm intrigued that you were seeking infromation about Archie Paddock 5 years ago this coming Wednesday. I don't know if you're still out there and will ever read or respond to this posting. I'm certain I'm a distant relative of Brad Gordon as I read his posting he created back in 2003 in response to your request for infromation on Archie Paddock. First and foremost, I'm profoundly curious as to how you've heard of Archie and why you would like to find out about him? Allow Me!
My mother's maiden name is Paddock and Archie was her grandfather. Archie was born in the early 1870's in Van Buren County near the town of South Haven in Southwestern lower Michigan. There may be a Geneva Township in Van Buren County, I need to locate my Michigan County maps for verification. Archie was a laborer and moved his family to the City of Kalamazoo sometime after the turn of the century to seek work. His wife was Edith and her maiden name was Fisher. They had 3 children: Ruth, Ross, And Lee. Ross Perry Paddock was my Mother's father. Ruth married Henry Manning. I know very little about the Manning family. They had many children and the only one I ever met was Paul Manning. My Mother's cousin Helen Paddock has (or had) a family bible with a wealth of information on the Manning family. I may visit Helen and see if she still has it. My mother told me Ruth and Henry formerly lived on M-96 in Comstock Township here in Kalamazoo County. Archie lived at one time on Willard St. in Kalamazoo just north of downtown shortly after relocating. Ross was born on March 9, 1907. He married my grandmother Frances Cecilia Taylor in June 1924. She was born in May 1907. They had 12 children, Cathlene, Phyllis, Bob, Jack, Bill, Jim, Glenn, Charles, Lois, Donald, Jerry, and my Mother, the youngest of the 12. My mother was born Nancy Lee Paddock on May 16, 1943. 7 of my Mother's siblings are now deceased. Archie's youngest son was Lee Sinclair Paddock. Lee was born in 1908. His wife was Millie Mae Paddock and she was born in 1906. Lee and Millie had 2 children, Argyle and Helen. Archie passed away in May 1965 when I was 4 months old, he was in his early 90's. His wife Edith preceded him in death in 1953. I'm not sure when Ruth or Henry passed away. Ross passed away on September 17, 1990, his wife Frances passed away in 1993. Both Lee and Millie passed away in the early 1990's also. After Edith passed away, Archie lived with both his sons and would alternate on a regular basis between the son's two homes. Ross lived at 1342 Burdick St. N. in Kalamazoo and Lee lived on Portage Court in the Washington Square neighborhood on Kalamazoo's Southeast side. My mother spent a lot of time with Archie as a child. She loved her grandfather and cherished the time they had together. She said he was witty, had a sharp mind, and was a gentle old soul. My Mother often took me to visit Uncle Lee when I was a child. I loved his house and all the antiques. Uncle Lee worked in one of Kalamazoo's paper factories as a laborer all his working life. Uncle Lee was also quite witty and made me feel happy when I was there. My grandfather Ross was a Pentecostal Minister and was away quite often. He was also very witty and had that sharp mind his father had. My Mother loved her Father dearly. If anyone would like additional information on Archie Paddock, let me know, through research and quizzing my Mother's relatives, there's a lot I can learn about Archie Paddock to share.
