Dear Cousin Catherine:
I am a grandson of T. W. Padden (1846-1916), the youngest son of Michael Padden (1790-1869) and Mary Carben (1800-1879).
When I saw your posting the other day, I was so hurried I did not use the machinery correctly, doing a posting instead of a follow-up.I had wanted to tell you that its not too much to ask to know the parents of Michael Padden and Mary Carben.
The names of Michael Padden's parents are quite surely Dominick Padden and Bridget Dougherty.
The names of Mary Carben's parents are pretty surely Patrick Carben and Mary O Connell.
You will find some other information in my two recent postings.
You ask specifically about Dominick Padden, not Michael's father, but his son.
DOMINICK PADDEN, the oldest son of Michael Padden and Mary Carben, was born in Killala in 1825.Died Fair Haven, Whatcom Co, WT, 8 July 1867.Came with the family to Mauch Chunk, PA, in 1848.He married CATHERINE NEALEN (1826-1915) in Pennsylvania c 1852.[She was a cousin of the MARY ELLEN NEALAN, who had been married a man by the name of SHEARING in Pennsylvania, before Dominick's brother Michael went back east to marry his widow in 1869].
In Pennsylvania, Dominick was the father of Patrick (1854) and Michael William (1856).He came to the west coast after the discovery of coal in Washington Territory, around the Horn, with his wife and boys; with his unmarried brother Michael (1827-1880); and with his brother Patrick (1829-?1875) and his wife, and perhaps also a daughter Katherine (note the K).The three brothers set up and operated their own mine in Sehome, the Bellingham Bay Coal Mines.
In Washington, Dominick and Catherine had three daughters, Mary (Sister Mary Aloysius, FSCP) 1858; Catherine (Sister Mary Leonilla, FCSP), 1860; and Anna (Sister Mary Patricia, SNJM) 1862.[Brother Patrick had perhaps all five of his children on the west coast: if not also Katherine, surely Agnes, Josephine, James and Frank].
Dominick was killed in a mining accident, 8 July 1867.His wife came to Vancouver at that time, when Dominick's parents were on the farm with their son Jim.The boys went to the Christian Brothers school in Vancouver and the girls to the Academy.
Subsequently, her two boys based themselves in Seattle, and Catherine Nealan moved there, where she died 29 July 1915.
PATRICK (1854-?1916) had three children: Anna Maria, Mildred, and Howard.
MICHAEL WILLIAM (1856-?1914) married Ella McDonald (1859), the daughter of a prominent Seattle pioneer. They had five children:Louis (1880), Stanley (1885), Mary Ellen (1888), Leonilla (1892), and Catherine (1898).
Stanley (1885) had a son Stanley (1934) who had six children: Mary (1956), Michael (1958), Theresa (1960), John (1961), Patrick (1964), Margaret (1966).
These are the youngest bearers of the Name that I know about.
I hope all of this is useful to you.
Tom
