I am interested in finding any info on the parents of James Packard. I know James was adopted by Ora (Asa) and Sara Whitney but have had little or no success finding anything on his birth parents, other than personal papers indicating their names as J A Packard and Mary Packard. No dates given. Also, have heard stories that he had a brother who may have kept his last name of Packard and possibly ventured to Connecticut. Just heresay. I know he lost his parents early in life (also heard stories that he may have lost his parents and siblings to the diphtheria epidemic in the 1860's in Vermont) which is why he shows up on the 1860 census as a 4 yr. old living with the Whitneys leaving me to believe he was born abt 1856.
