Dear Betty,
Thank you so much for your reply. As you I have located all my genealogical research on my own , too.
I read through you other Pacheco postings before I replied to your query. Several oddities I came across in my research also echoed in yours. The duel names for one.
The mention of sponsors is the other. I do know that my grandfather of probably did have sponsors in this country before arriving. Family oral history prior to my research always mentioned of them being "sent to this country" because they already had family and family interests here.
I am very fortunate in that I have located one older relative now almost 100 with a very clear memory that has been able to relate information I would not have known to look for in records.
Through this relative I learned that he and his siblings were madewards of the state after being orphaned and placed asfoster children with the Brothers family that already had an established history of caring for foster children. Over time they were pretty much adopted into that family.
I am curently trying to locate the official name of the Masachusetts Children's Aid Society maintained by the state at that time. From there I have hoped to be able through Mass. Archives or some other repository to locate
records of the time that might include additonal information of these children or their parents.
As I continue my search I will be on the look out for any information that might include the Pacheco individuals you are seeking as well.
Feel free to contact me directly if you locate any
info you would like to brainstorm with.
