Not hard at all.Stephen Pace's land was on Peachtree Creek, lying partly in Bute County and partly in Edgecombe County, as recorded in 1771:
Abstracts of Early Deeds of Edgecombe County, North Carolina 1759-1772, Joseph W. Watson, P314-315: DB D:363 ELEYWILLIAMS of Halifax Co., N.C. to STEPHEN PACE of Northampton Co., N.C. Jan. 5, 1771 for 40 pounds Virginia money a tract of 380 acres lying in both Edgecombe and Bute Counties, on the north bank of Peachtree Creek and on Bear Branch adjoining William Hill, John Odom, and Drury Harrington. The tract of land was conveyed to said Eley Williams by Charles Arrington of Orange Co., N.C. Wit: Harry Taylor, Wilson Williams, Skipworth Richard.
And, of course, the deed from Charles Arrington to Eley Williams, which I cited earlier, reassuringly confirms that Peach Tree Creek was in the same place, with the same name, at least as early as 1746:
"Edge. Co. Db C, page 244, deed date (1 Mar 1764), recorded Jul Ct 1764, Charles Harrington, (Orange Co), NC to Eley Williams, for 35 pds, a tract lying part in Edgecombe and part in Granville Co, containing 380 acres, beginning on the north side of Peach Tree at a gum in (William Hill's) line then by said line south 58 east 60 poles to a red oak in the Bare Branch then the several courses of the said branch north 10 west 280 poles to a willow oak in John Adams line then by said line west 120 poles to a pine then by the ( ) line north 60 poles to a pine then west 224 poles to a black oak in Granville Co (Drury Herrington's) corner then by said line south 160 poles to ( ) oak in Peach Tree then down the several courses of said creek to the first station, signed Charles Harrington (P), wit Nathan Whitehead, Wilson Williams, (William Hill) (H). Abstracted 7 Mar 07, NCA film
C.037.40002, CTC."
And Nathan Whitehead, as I pointed out earlier, was father of Thomas Whitehead, who married Erasmus Culpepper's sister Chloe and thus became Erasmus Culpepper's brother-in-law and bought Peachtree Creek land from Erasmus in 1772.
Nathan Whitehead's will: 20 Mar 1778, Nash Co., North Carolina, In the name of God, Amen. I NATHAN WHITEHEAD of Nash County and State of North Carolina being in perfect health and sound memory, calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die. Upon most mature deliberation constitue this my last will and testament in manner and form following.

I likewise give him three negroes viz: LUKE, JINNEY and RALPH, also a still worm and cap to his heirs forever.
Item: I give and bequeath to NATHAN WHITEHEAD son of THOMAS WHITEHEAD a negro girl named PHILLIS to him and his heirs forever.
Lastly, I lend to my wife RACHAEL, all the rest of my goods and effects whatsoever, during her life or widowhood, but at her decease or marriage then the said goods and effects to be equally divided among my children, to wit: BENJAMIN WHITEHEAD, THOMAS WHITEHEAD, R. NICKOLSON, PLIERITY SANDIFORD, CHLOE CULPEPPER, ISABEL BELL, MARY SANDIFORD and HENRY WHITEHEAD. I likewise constitute and appoint RACHAEL my wife and my son THOMAS WHITEHEAD to be executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this twentieth day of March, one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight.

Deed from Erasmus Culpepper (husband of the Chloe Culpepper mentioned in Nathan Whithead's will) to brother-in-law Thomas Whitehead (Nathan Whitehead's son):
"In Nov 1772, Erasmus Culpepper sold to his brother-in-law Thomas Whitehead, for love and affection, a tract of 200 acres on the north bank of Peachtree Creek at mouth of Pace's Branch. Witnesses were Reuben Wheless and Williby (M) Manning (Edgecombe Deed Bk 2-29)." (http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/CULPEPPER/1998-04/0891758497)
