Could be.
Thomas Gagecomb's patent (30 Jan 1664, Patent Book 5, p.4) refers to "Pace's Point" and "Pace's Swamp" in Bermuda Hundred, which if it's correct could mean that a Pace owned land in that area during the mid-17th century.But in another patent (Michael Masters, 1645) it's called "Pates Swamp".Even in the Gagecomb patent it looks like "Pairs Swamp" in one occurrence.
An article "Colonial Churches of Prince George and Dinwiddie Counties" in the W&M Quarterly of July 1943 calls it Pace's Swamp, and includes a map showing the line running along Pace's Swamp to Pace's Point.This is where Abraham Wood had his trading post.And the Occaneechi Trail ran down to Chowan from here.
Unless more information turns up I'll stick with Richard in Bertie Co. NC as my earliest known Pace.I don't know where he came from.
