Between 1799-1803, Stephen Pace appears on the Johnston County Taxable Lists in Capt Wm Hinnant's district. (Johnston County North Carolina Taxable 1784-1820 Part I Weynette Parks Haun)

Stephen Pace and William Hinnant were both present at the estate sale of Jacob Walker in 1792 in Johnston County. Also at the sale was JOHN KILLINGSWORTH.

Sales of Est. of Jacob WALKER, dec. 3 Nov. 1792. Wm. SMITH & Lucy WALKER, Admr. Buyers - Jacob GARNER, Wm. SMITH, Mason HEARN. Luce WATKINS, John KILLINGSWORTH, Wm. HINNANT, Donnald SEARCY, William WALKER, William GARNER, Willie GARNER, Jacob SPICER, Henry FINCH, Amos ADKERSON, Micajah ADKERSON, Willis WILDER, Majer WALKER, Lewis WALKER, George CUPPER, Stephen PIRCE, Samuel O'NEAL, Solomon TOMMOUS, James HOLDER, Stephen PACE, Geo. SEARCY, Randolph MORE, Ross O'NEIL, John MOOR, William HATCHER, Richard BALEY. (Records of Estates Johnston County North Carolina Vol. I-V 1781-1807, Elizabeth E. Ross, 1988)

Can anyone say whether and how John Killingsworth was related to Francis Killingsworth in Johnston County?

Francis Killingsworth's will, proved July Court 1752, mentions wife Rebekah, son NOLS KILINGSWORTH. Execs Rebekah Kilingsworth, Solomon Thomas, Arthur Fort. Wit: Rachel (R) Stephens, Elizabeth (x) Pace

James Pace and Richard Pace are mentioned in the accounts (3 Mar 1751).

These Paces are from the line of Richard Pace (d. ca. 1738 Bertie Co NC). Specifically they are from the line of Richard Pace, eldest son of Richard of Bertie.

One of the executors, Arthur Fort, married a daughter of Richard Jr ("Adventurers of Purse and Person", 4th ed, Pace section).

"Nols" Killingsworth, the son of the deceased, migrated to GA with the family of Richard Pace Jr, as shown by the following records:

1773, Feb 19, Johnston Co Deed Book H1, pg 86, Knowel Killingsworth of St. Paul's Parish, Colony of Georgia sold to Edmund Stevens of Johnston Co., 640 acres. (cited at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~backyard/KillingsworthLand.htm)

1776 Aug 6 (date written), will of James Aycock "of Chatham Dist. in the Ceeded Lands Province of Ga.", mentions "beloved wife", sons William Richard, James, John, and Sherod Aycock; Thos Wooten; Hardy Sanders; and Barnabas Pace. Excrs. Drury Pace, Noel Killingsworth, (torn) Pratt, Test. Signed Aug. 6, 1776. Georgia Secretary's
Office, A true copy taken July 15, 1777. James Whitfield, Secty. (from Wilkes County GA Book of Mixed Records, Wills, Administrations and Deeds-1777-1778, cited at http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/wilkes/history/1932/earlyrec/bookofmi71nms.txt)

The Barnabas Pace mentioned in the will was married to James Aycock's daughter Agnes. James Aycock was a son of Rebecca Pace, daughter of Richard Pace of Bertie Co; she married (1) John Bradford and (2) William Aycock.

Note that Richard Pace Jr (son of Richard of Bertie Co) named a son Knowles, which has always been a source of great mystery in Pace genealogy -- unnecessarily, I suggest. Knowles Pace may well have been named for Knowles Killingsworth.

If anyone has any information about the relationship between the Killingsworths and the Paces, or between John Killingsworth and Francis Killingsworth, I would be interested to hear.

James Blair
