Will of FRANCIS BOYKIN 1 August 1761 Halifax September Court 1761 to daughter MILDRED WALL ... to grandsons SAMUEL BOYKIN and FRANCIS BOYKIN .. loving wife SARAH BOYKIN and my 4 children (names not given). Extrs.: my son JOHN BOYKIN and my son-in-law WILLIAM PACE Wits.: JOHN WADE, CHARLES GREGORY. (Northampton County, North Carolina, 1759-1808, Genealogical Abstracts of Wills, Margaret M. Hofmann, 1975)

The son-in-law William Pace was the son of Richard Pace (d. ca. 1738, Bertie Co NC) and wife Rebecca.

On December 10, 1766, John Boykin was deeded "for love and affection", by Robert Williams, Richard and Mildred Wall, and William and Selah Pace, two tracts of land on the south side of Cypress Swamp in Northampton Co NC, both tracts having formerly belonged to Francis Boykin.

The John Boykin who was given the two tracts of land was John Boykin, son of Francis Boykin. Richard and Mildred Wall, and William and Selah Pace, were his sisters and their husbands.

John Boykin married Sarah Hart, daughter of Thomas Hart who deeded 183 acres to John Boykin 15 March 1749 Northampton Co NC (Northampton Co NC Deed Book 1, p. 382).

According to "Adventurers of Purse and Person" (4th ed., v.3, ed. John Frederick Dorman) Sarah Hart had a brother Thomas Hart. I would like to find out if he was the Thomas Hart in the deed below:

THOMAS (H) HART OF Edgecombe Co., planter, to JOHN PACE of same, Jan. 1760, for 31 pounds 10s. a 190 acre plantation on the south bank of Beaver Dam Swamp, as by a deed granted unto Thomas Hart bearing date Nov. 6, 1756. Wit: Kindred Carter, Jesse Carter. (Abstracts of Early Deeds of Edgecombe County, North Carolina 1759-1772, Joseph W. Watson (1966), p27.

Would welcome any information. Does anyone have a copy or abstract of the deed of 1756 in which Thomas Hart acquired the land on Beaver Dam Swamp?

James Blair
