My great, great, great grandfather is John MATTHEWS, born circa 1800 in/around Westmoreland Co., PA. John married Rebecca WHITE on January 27,1829 in Westmoreland Co. PA. In 1856, the Matthews family removed from PA to Ogle County, Illinois, and three years later the home was established in Champaign county. John and Rebecca had numerous children, including my ancestor, Caroline (Matthews) Watson. John Matthews passed away September, 1865 in Illinois and his wife, Rebecca died at PA in 1882. Rebecca moved back to PA to be closer to some of her children after her husbandís death. Rebecca is believed to have been affiliated with the United Presbyterian Church, whereas John, her husband may have not.

Throughout my Matthews research, I have also found that my ancestors often had their last name recorded as MATHEWS. Does anyone have any information on the Matthews/Mathews family of Westmoreland Co., PA? I have noticed that John Matthews lived in close approximation in 1850 to Frederick and Mary Matthews in Ligonier Township, Westmoreland, Pennsylvania. Thus, the next recorded family after John and Rebecca is, Frederick MATTHEWS, 74, Farmer, $700, Pa., Mary, 70, Pa., Charlotte, 29; Chambers NIPSCUM*, 5; Christena MATTHEWS, 11. Does anyone know of a connection to this particular MATTHEWS family? I would be interested in viewing the will/probate of Frederick and Mary Matthews.
It is worthy to note that John and Rebecca Matthews' granddaughter, Dorothy Watson married James "Jim" Wyman, multi-term Mayor of Pittsburgh, Allegheny Co., PA.
Any help is appreciated! Thank you!
