I'm trying to figure out the father of my Robert Guthrie, 1752-1815 - and just wondering if I can use a professional for some guidance. I figure his father was born probably 1725-1730 (??) William Smiley came from York County, and was business partners with Robert's father-in-law, William Caldwell. I'm looking for Guthrie/ Guttery veteran researchers who have worked early Pennsylvania, Virginia and/or Maryland. My Robert Guthrie/Guttery named his first son, William. His wife, Jane, had a father WILLIAM CALDWELL, and mother Margaret McEwen, from Cumberland Co. Robert's wife's father was William Caldwell - but both fathers could have been named "William." Robert was living in "that area" of Washington County, Pa - - which was created thru Westmoreland County, PA before that Cumberland County, PA etc. "That area" was also claimed by Virginia at the same time - hence why I may be looking for early Virginia. Robert names some of his children very interesting middle names - - (perhaps a clue to his maternal or wife's side of family ?) * John Allen Guthrie * James Cunningham Guthrie * Robert Caldwell Guthrie * 2 Kirkpatrick brothers and a Kirkpatrick sister marry into Robert Guthrie's family - (William, Mary Ann and John Kirkpatrick.) * 2 Cunningham sisters also marry into Robert's family as well (ie: Margaret and Jane.) Other surnames marrying into Robert's family: * Adam Finley - b. 1760 * Robert Finney * Timothy Titus * James Long * Nancy Turbett/ Torbett * Elizabeth Auld * Sallie Parrish Do these surnames ring a bell ?
