While reading a souvenir edition of "The Kansas City Evening Star" dated Saturday, September 18,1880, I came accross this tiny little notation..
William Smith, a merchant of Damas-
cus, Pa., ruined himself and partner by
stock specutation, and fled the country.
That's it in it's entirety. I don't know if there is another Damascus besides the one in Wayne County, but I thought I would post this and see if anyone knew anything about it. Must have been big news to make it clear to Kansas City, Missouri in 1880.
