1900 Census has in Tidioute William D. Waid [1865-1928], wife Mary E. [Dow, 1865-1952] and five of their six children (the youngest, Douglas, having been born after 1900). The children are Ralph Dow Waid [1888-1933, my grandfather], Hazel K[irk], Kenneth, Harriet, and Georgianna.
I have long sought without success to identify Mary E. Dow's parents. I recently learned that her aforementioned daughter Hazel Kirk Waid, whom I met once when I was a teenager and Hazel was 79 years of age, was a spinster, whereas in fact she was married to Henry E. Vincent who died in 1959. What makes this interesting in my search for Mary E. Dow's parents is that Hazel's marriage certificate lists the place of birth of Hazel's mother, my great-grandmother Mary E. Dow, as Tidioute, Warren Co., PA (and that of William Donald Waid, as I suspected, in nearby Crawford Co., at Tryonville, PA).
So, Mary WAS born in Warren Co. If anyone has access to census data for either of 1870 or 1880 it should be possible to identify her parents.
Any info appreciated.
