I am looking for information about the Spidel/Spydle family that lived in Union county from 1790 to at least 1830.
Specifically I'm looking for information on David Spidel:
David Spidel was born in PA (from 1850 US Census) on 12 Feb 1797 (tombstone) and died on 26 Sept 1863 (tombstone).
He was married to Barbara ? (1850 US Census) and had at least 6 children. Gathered from census and obituaries, I have identified his children as:
Samuel, birth and death dates unknown
John, born 10 May 1833 and died 10 Sept 1897 (twin to Henry)
Henry, born 10 May 1833 and died 24 Jan 1904
Susannah, born 09 Jun 1826 and died 23 Sept 1904
Caroline, born 09 Jan 1828 and died 13 Mar 1890
Lydia, born 1830
The family moved from PA to near Dayton, OH in 1836 and from there to Darke county, OH in 1850.
Obituaries of his children give conflicting information about where in PA the family was from. The obituaries list Somerset, Lancaster and Union counties. I have either researched or paid for research in Somerset, Lancaster, Dauphin and Union counties but have not been able to pinpoint exactly where in PA the family was actually from.
I have not found David in the 1840 census (he is NOT the David Spidle in Stark county) but I may have found him in the Union County, PA 1830 census as:
David Spydle 1 male 5-10, 1 male 30-40, 3 females under 5, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 30-40 and 1 female 70-80.
There is also a Max Spydle listed in the Union county census. I'm wondering if this David is the same David that I'm looking for and if Max is his father or at least a relative.
If anyone has info on the Spydle family found in Union County or ideas on where I can look for possible leads, I would greatly appreciate your help.
