I am a local person who belongs to the Old Possesions Hunting Club and have searched for the origines of the name a long time. I am not sure exactly where this settlement was located..but it was some where north of the Old Possesions trail,,,the first account I found indicated it was neas Chamberlains Corners...which is at the top of the mountain road from Mainsburg. The story goes lke this...A Doctor Fellows abtained a tract of land..prior to the turn of the century (1800) and convinced several families to come with him to settle it. The settler where to be tenents on his land but he asured all that the land would provide all they needed. Large areas of land was cleared, crops planted, home built with everyone(accept I assume Dr Fellows)provided a share of their time building improvements which would benift all. A friend recently showed me and article from the Canton Independant Sentinal from 1912 which told how these people came to leave. The article was tiled the year with no summer. It stated that in the year 1816 it snow every month of that year..all thru the summer and that a community of people who had clared alrge fields and built the foundation of a town had finally given up and returned to where they came from. It must be remembered that this area of Penn didnt begin to see large numbers settlers until about this time and they found the remains of this prior community..but had no knowlage of who had built them or when...the area has been refered to as The Old Possessions every since that time
