P 41 - In 1800 Rudolph Pitcher erected a cabin on the northwest corner of Broad Street and the Public Square and kept tavern until 1802, when he sold out to Peter Reber, and then purchased the lot on the southwest corner of Broad Street and the Public Square, upon which he erected a square log building with a shingle roof, a new thing in those days, entertained the public and sold goods. Adam Weaver and William Hamilton became his clerks. In a few years, perhaps in or about 1808 he sold to Jacob Boos, and put up a dwelling on the southeast corner of Main and Center alley, the alley running north and south between second street and the Public Square, where he resided at the time of his death in 1812. A brother Frederick Pitcher, settled in Lancaster previous to 1802, and after a few years moved to the falls of Hockhocking. From there he moved to Michigan.
Abraham Pitcher, another brother, came at an early day, and he and Rudolph built a paper mill, now in Hocking County Ohio, and since called Good Hope Mill. The Pitchers were native of Switzerland. In 1801 Rudolph Pitcher and Isaac Koontz erected a sawmill, on the Saw Mill Run, so called, about five miles south of Lancaster.
P47 - Andrew Crocket, a son-in-law of Rudolph Pitcher, was an early merchant, but not successful.

Abraham Pitcher
Mr. Pitcher came with his father, Abraham Pitcher to Lancaster in 1801 or 1802. He married Elizabeth Cassel, sister of Wm. Cassel, the carpenter.
Pitcher was not engaged in any regular business but often acted as an auctioneer. By some means he raised the money and built a frame house on the north-east corner of High and Main Streets, since owened and occupied successively by R. M. Ainsworth and P. B. Ewing. Maccraken's house is now on the lot. In the thirties he deserted his wife, and she returned to her old home in Perry County. Pitcher went to New York and 'tis said got into trouble and finally into the State Prison. In 1856 he sent to General George Sanderson an oak cane made of wood taken from the house once used by General george Washington as his headquarters at Newburgh, N. Y. This is the last heard of him.
