Maybe your Nicholas had a sister, Catherine, who married Jacob Kinney (must have dob around 1750 as they have a son Martin born in 1776). I have a note saying:
9/3/1786 Mary Magdelene Rau, widow, petitioned the court for pension, stating that her husband was killed by Indians at Fochts Mill in July 1780, in a battle at that place. Col. Peter Hostermann certified to the service and death of George. She was granted a lump sum of L18. Later she again applied.
