Oil derrick accident at Port Allegany, PA?
Posted by: Alice Keel Crim (ID *****4524) Date: August 28, 2004 at 06:23:03

....I am looking for any possible information about an oil derrick accident that happened in Port Allegany at sometime in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
....I have an obit from the June 7, 1928- Hancock Herald (Hancock, Delaware Co., NY) which states that William Armstrong lost a leg "years ago" "at Port Alleghany, Pa., in an oil derrick accident."
....I have no clue as to the oil history, or the frequency of such accidents, in that area. I am just hoping that accidents were so infrequent that you would know what I am talking about.
....I realize "years ago" is rather vague,to say the least!
....I would appreciate any help you can give me on this.
Thank you
