Hoping someone here may connect. My 3rd gr grandfather, William HARRIS, was b. 1798 PA. He settled in what is now Paupack twp, Wayne PA by 1828. We believe he may have come there from somwhere else in Wayne.
1800 census shows a William HARRIS in Delaware twp., then Wayne County PA. He has 3 males under 10, so one could well be my William. We lose track of this man in 1810.
Then, ancestry.com 1820 census lists a William HARR in Pike County. now i realize this COULD be the surname as written, Harr. However, it is just too curious. I need to find out 1)the actual census reading, since ancestry doesn't allow me to view the original record, and 2) either eliminate him as a possibility for William's father, if age is not correct, OR keep researching this man.
Of course, Wm. the elder could have died after the 1800 census, and Wm. the younger could have grown up there in another household. Then by 1820, he has married Betsey SHARP, and shows up as head of household in Delaware twp.... transcriber error?!
So that could fit. (If it were the younger, his age would be about 22 years old, and Betsey would be 26.)
Has anyone any knowledge of this William Harris in 1800, or a HARR family in 1820 or thereabouts in Pike? I also need to find a copy of this man in the 1820 census for Pike County.
