Hey folks, I'm searching for information regarding a great uncle of mine, James Cromie.
James was born between Rathfriland and Hilltown Co. Down in an area known as Ballygorian. I have his D.O.B has 31/12/1911 and he was baptised in Hilltown Presbyterian Church.
All I know about James is that he was my grandfather Robert's oldest brother. He is said to have immigrated to American in 1930 on-board the passenger ship the Antonia which sailed from Belfast 22/03/30 arriving in New York 03/04/30.
He was listed as being an 18yr, farmer from Drumlough, Rathfriland which is where the family had settled.
James only ever returned home once to visit his family, unsure of the date but will try and find out more about that, he's known to have returned with a friend also from Rathfriland. He's meant to have ended up in Pennsylvania, region.
I've found a naturalization record for a James Cromie 07/11/41, his age given as 29, birth date about 1912.
A possible address as 119 W. Sharpewack St, Philadelphia.
Also have a Social Security Index match for a James Cromie, Born 31/12/1911 - Died 31/07/94 in Lafayette Hill, Montgomery, Pennsylvania which is only about 6 miles away from Sharpewack St.
It's highly likely that this is my James Cromie. Has anyone got any Cromie Connections within this region, do you's know this guy? He'd have died aged 83yrs.
p.s Also thanks to another poster on here, have been made aware of this following information -
'A James Cromie married an Isabelle(a) V, b. 1905, d 1994. They may have had a son William J Cromie (b. 15 Feb 1936) who married Margaret (b. 29 Sept 1940). Family appeared to have lived in Flourtown, Pa (next to Lafayette Hills). You can search the White Pages for the most current listing for William J Cromie and Margaret, living in Abington, PA. They may have had children: Michael D and Walter V Cromie.'
Does any of that sound familiar?
