Migration from Pennsylvania to Illinois

My research and family records seem to indicate a large migration of people from Perry, Juniata and Dauphin Counties to the Peoria County, Illinois area in the mid-1840's. Can anyone suggest a specific reason for this? Records for Peoria County also mention a large number of early settlers were from this area of Pennsylvania, specifically Juniata County.
