Chester P. Wunderly, 87, of Nazareth, died Saturday, September 6, 2008 in Kirkland Village, Bethlehem. Born April 19, 1921 in Easton he was the son of the late Charles S. and E. Louisa (Achenbach) Wunderly. He was the husband of the late Virginia E. (Miller) Wunderly, who passed away in 1998. Chester worked for the Hercules Cement Company, Stockertown, for many years before retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Nazareth Moravian Church, 4 S. Main Street, Nazareth, where he conducted the church orchestra. He also played in the church Brass Choir many years ago. He played French Horn for the Allentown Band for more than 55 years and the Allentown Symphony for more than 45 years as well as other musical organizations. He operated his own instrument repair business in Nazareth, where he did repairs for various school districts in the area as well as some historical instruments owned by the Moravian Historical Society and housed in the Whitfield House, Nazareth. Chester honorably served his country in the Army during World War II with the Timberwolves, 104th Division where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He also played his horn in that divisions band. He was also a member of the V.F.W.
Survivors: He is survived by daughters, Kay E., wife of Alan Stokes, of Laureldale, Linda A., wife of Russell M. Thomas, of Nazareth,Nancy L., wife of Stephen E. Cunningham, of Nazareth; brother, Francis Bentz Wunderly of Lower Nazareth Township; 10 grandchildren,13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Julia Heckman, Dr. Lucy Hill, Miriam Seyfried, Kathryn Johnson, Margaret Adams, Luella Vogelsang, Anna Bossert, Rachel Wunderly and brothers, Kermit Dutch Wunderly, George Wunderly, Charles S. Tooner Wunderly, Gerald Wunderly and Nelson Wunderly.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 with a calling hour one hour prior to the services, all in the church.
Interment will be in the Nazareth Moravian Cemetery.
