I, too, am related to the Smith's of Montour Co. I beleive the following William Smith may be the father of your Samuel shade Smith:

Abelina 4

Wm. J. 4/12
Neighbors: Augustus & Anna Lindauer, Peter & Catharine Geroge, Williiam & Sarah Strouse, and John & Sophia Schuyler.

1860--Census. Lewis Twp., Northumberland Co., PA, July 23, page 145, No. 1033/1025.
William H. 45 farmer $3,000 P.E. $625 R.E.
Catharine 42
Samuel 16 farm hand attending school
Abeline 14 " "
Margaret 12 " "
Jacob 11 " "
Henry 8 " "

Information on William H. Smith and his lineage is partially from records received from John Harris, II. He sent a photcopy of two family trees from a burned family Bible that no longer exists.
