At that time I had no other information than my great grandparent's names, William Evans and Mary Diseroad Evans. I have since found the Diseroad family through a librarian at the Andruss Library at Bloomsburg University. I found her e-mail address through msn search on "diseroad". Lucky for me that she was using her maiden name. She was able to confirm that we descend from the same family. Also my brother took our Mother and I to Bloomsurg & Danville to meet her.
While in Danville we drove to 129 Grand Street to see the home that my grandfather grew up in. The house was built and owned by the Diseroad family and my great grandmother Mary Diseroad, born 1875, is listed as living there with her parents & siblings as of an 1880 census report. Mary died before 1920 leaving Wm with 4 children, Walter, Arthur, Raymond and Mabel.
The house was for sale but was still owned by my great aunt Sara, widow of Raymond Evans. Sara was in a nursing home at the time. A neighbor who knew one of Sara's daughters kindly forwarded my Mother's addr & phone & my Mother received a call from her cousin. Unfortunately, she did not have any Evans info.
Recently I joined Ancestry.com. I have found census reports that listed in 1930, William M Evans and daughter Mabel (my great aunt) living at 129 Grand St. William was approx 66 yrs old at the time and according to my Mother, he died approx 1935.
I kept searching the 1880 Danville census and found an Evans family also living on Grand Street. The Head of House was David aged 55 and wife Mary aged 52, both born in Wales. 5 children, all born in PA, Mary 21, Lizzie 13, Thomas 20, William 17, and Margaret 18.
The 17 yr old William would be the right age to be my great grandfather and Margaret would have been born about 1862. With both Evans & Diseroad families living on the same street has given me hope that I have found my ancestors.
I still don't have any proof that this family is the one I'm searching for. If you have any more information connecting these Evans to your family please let me know.
