Corporal John M. Engle buried in Old Swedes Christ Church Cemetery, Upper Merion Township (Bridgeport), Montgomery County, PA:

He was born January 1839 in Upper Merion Township, Montgomery County, PA the son of Joseph and Ann (Nivens) Engle. John married about 1866 Anna Jane Famous the daughter of Charles and Jane Famous.. He died October 1, 1902 at Swedeland, Montgomery County, PA and was buried Saturday October 4, 1902..
The Pennsylvania State Archives show his Civil War Record as follows:: Enrolled Aug. 31, 1861 at Upper Merion; Mustered In Sept. 28, 1861 as Pvt. at Harrisburg, PA;
Mustered Out July 27, 1865; Discharged; Age at enrollment - 24; Complextion-light; Height- 5'8"; Eyes- grey; Hair- brown; Occupation- farmer; Residence (Born)- Montgomery County, PA; Remarks- Re-enlisted Jan. 1, 1864 at Blaines X Rds. Promoted to Corporal.

Civil War Pension Index: Engle, John M.; 51st PA Inf.; Widow - Anna J.
Invalid - March 27, 1888; application #646991; certificate #433496
Widow - October 23, 1902; application #772331; certificate #546,871

1850-PA-Philadelphia County-Spring Garden Ward 6:
ENGLE: Joseph 44; Elizabeth 44; Margaret 18; Phebe 16; John 12; Louisa 9; Josephine 7. All born in PA.

1850-PA-Montgomery County-Upper Merion Township:
FAMOUS: George 60 farmer; Charles 54 farmer; Jane 52; Anna Jane 5; Charles 3; Mary 1. All born in PA.

1870-PA-Montgomery County-Upper Merion Township-PO General Wayne:
ENGAL (ENGLE): John M. 30 farmer; Anne J. 25; Rebecca 3; George 2; FAMIS (FAMOUS) : Martha 17 dom. Servant; ENGAL (ENGLE): Joseph 64 W. on farm. All born in PA. Note: Believe Joseph is John Mís father.

1880-PA-Montgomery County-Upper Merion Township-Enumeration Dist. 30:
ENGLE: John M., 45 laborer; Anna Jane, wife 38; George W.( F. ), son 10; Ellen E., dau. 8; Adeline F., dau. 8; Bertha, dau. 7; Charles, son 2. All born in PA
The census shows Georgeís middle initial as W., believe it should be F.

1900-PA-Montgomery County-Upper Merion Township-Enumeration Dist. 261:
ENGLE: John M. head 61 b. Jan. 1839, Supervisor of Twp.; Anna I ( J. ) wife 55 b. May 1845; Charles F. son 22 b. Mar. 1878; Mary S. dau. 16 b. Apr. 1884 seamstress.
All born in PA; married for 34 years; had 11 children and 5 are living.
Note: George F. Engle is missing - he is in 1900 census for Jefferson County, PA
