I am looking for information on my g-g-g-grandparents Catherine and Daniel McLaughlin of McVeytown. They had sons John and Daniel. I need Catherine's maiden name and parents' names, and also information as to what happened to husband Daniel after 1850.
Mifflin County census for 1840 shows Daniel and Catherine McLaughlin living together in McVeytown with sons John and Daniel. Census for 1850, shows Catherine and sons living together in McVeytown, but Daniel living with a Criswell family in McVeytown. After 1850, there are no records for Daniel in Mifflin County.
Son John McLaughlin (1838-1889) married Ellen Gearhart (1841-1883)and had 10 children. When Ellen died in 1883, 9 of the children were under the age of 16. When John died in 1889, five of them were under 16. The minor children were then placed with relatives.
There seems to be a connection between all the names in my "subject line" above ......
Deed on record at Mifflin Co. courthouse dated 1875 shows transfer of a house in McVeytown from Mrs. Withrow to Catherine McLaughlin, which borders property owned by Macklins.
Catherine McLaughlin's will, written 1875 and probated 1881 was witnessed by William Macklin
Mary Macklin of McVeytown, daughter of James and Elizabeth Johnson Macklin, married Jeremiah McLaughlin and moved to Ohio.
Mary's sister Elizabeth Macklin married Samuel Withrow and lived and died in Wayne Twp.
Mary and Elizabeth's brother George Macklin married Sarah Withrow; their daughter Elizabeth Macklin married Samuel Stine and moved to Illinois.
After the deaths of John andEllen McLaughlin, some of their minor children lived with a Stine family, until they reached age 16.
I hope someone can help me get through or over this brick wall!
