It could have happened, but you can't build a family tree on "could have". Either your have evidence or you don't. If someone could show me evidence that Alex was born to Benjamin and Eleanor and then lived with relatives, I'd be okay. But I can't work on suppositions.
I'm not even sure that Eleanor was old enough in 1810 to get married. Bell places her birth in, I believe, 1784, but other sources say she was born in 1794 or 1797. Some sources place the marriage of Benjamin and Eleanor AFTER 1810. And why would there be a gap of nearly 14 years between her first child, Alex, and the second child for whom we have a date, Jane? There are a lot of holes in this theory.
