Ancestry of Thomas JONES m Martha WEST
I am trying to track my ancestors from Thomas JONES (c 1710 Wales -1775 Hilltown, Bucks, PA.His mother was Margaret CLAYTON (spelled CLEATON on the Wales parish registers) who married _____ JONES.
I located a baptism record for Margaretta Cleaton on 3 Dec 1682 in Trefeglwys, Montgomeryshire, Wales in "Wales, Montgomeryshire, Parish Registers, 1538-1912."
I located a marriage record for Evanriteus JONES and Margaretta Cleaton on 26 June 1708 in Trefeglwys. So I started looking for more information on Evan, and I found him in some records that related to the TILSLEY family (Margaret Clayton's grandmother was a Tilsley).
I am trying to determine the parents of the Evan Jones that married Margaret Clayton in 1708.
On 11 Feb 1712/13, Evan Jones, along with John Tilsley, appraised the estate of William Tilsley, of Llewydcoed in the parish of Aberhavesp, co. Montgomery, gent. (William was probably the older brother of Rev. John Tilsley.)
On 11 July 1739, Evan is named in Richard Tilsley's will. Evan is said to be "of Trewythin" and named as an overseer of his will. Richard was possibly son of William Tilsley who died in 1662.
In 1742, Evan is shown as "Evan Jones of Trewythen, esquire", for the county of Montgomery, in an "act for rectifying mistakes in the names of the commissioners for the land tax for the year 1742, and for the appointing of other persons, together with those named for the said year, to put in execution an act of this present session of Parliament", entitled "An Act for granting an aid to his majesty by a land tax to be raised in Great Britain for the service of the year 1743."
The above records are from two books: "Anno Regni Georgii II. Regis Magnae Britanniae, Franciae, & Hiberniae, Decimo Sexto: At the Parliament Begun and Holden at Westminster, the First Day of December, Anno Dom. 1741, in the Fifteenth Year of the Reign of Our Sovereign Lord, George the Second ... and from Thence Continued by Several Prorogations to the Sixteenth Day of November, 1742, Being the Second Session of this Present Parliament, by Thomas Baskett and Robert Baskett, printers to the King, 1742" and "History of the Family of Tildesley."
"Heraldic Illustrations" by Burke states: "Jones of Trewythen and Rhiewport, co. Montgomery. This younger branch of the eminent house of Nannau, in Merioneth, derived from Rhiwallon ap Madoc, second son of Madoc, Lord of Nannau, son of Cadwgan, and grandson of Bleddyn Ap Cynfyn, King of Powys, is now represented by Wythen Jones, Esq. of Trewythen and Rhiewport, co. Montgomery, High Sheriff in 1829. Arms —Quarterly. First and fourth, or, a lion ramp. gu. Second and third, sa. three nags' heads erased. Crest. —A lion ramp. gu. Motto. —Frangas non flectes."
In "Annals and Antiquities of the Counties and County Families of Wales" by Thomas Nicholas, he gives the rundown of the above mentioned pedigree/descent:

Unfortunately he doesn't give dates for anyone, so it's been quite a task trying to determine where he might fit in. From what I can tell, he would come in towards the bottom and could be a son of one of several...It seems, with his name, that he would be part of this family.Any help will be most appreciated!
