I can only find 4 records for him.

1) His NH Death record where Alice says he was born 5/30/1896 Geneva/Genevia NY. She doesn't know who his parents were. He died of fatal burns - set clothing afire with a cigarette while intoxicated. Looks like the fire was about 10 am on Sunday Oct. 14, 1945 - he died about 5 pm. Buried Upper Gloucester Cem. New Gloucester, ME.

2) 1940 Census New Gloucester, ME.
Whomever provided the information said he was born 1902 in Pennsylvania.

3) 1934 Marriage record to Alice J. Loring-no helpful info

4) SSDI -

He should show up with a May birth in some year in the 1900 census, unless the 1902 date is correct- can't find him.

If he was born <1900, he should show up in WWI & WWII draft registrations - can't find him.

Something seems amiss.

Have you gotten his application for a social security number? It should list his parents and his birthplace - and he would have had to fill it out himself.
