Dunmore & Scranton, Pennslyvania
The reason that I'm posting, is that I'm writing my own personal history. Dunmore and Scranton were a part of that journey. I remember everyone being so friendly. From the first day of school, I had friends.
I hope you can help me, if you can not do so, can you please direct me to someone that can.
I lived on Electric Street just before the curve, in Dunmore, Pennsylvania....that became Scranton. My family lived there from 1960-1962. Although it was such a short time, I have such great memories. I just love history.
I went to Dunmore High School. My class would have been 1963. I would like to know the address and if there would be a old photo of that school just off Electric Street. I imagine that the school has been long since been torn down. If so, it would be interesting to find out when it was torn down.
We lived across from a Deaf School. At the corner across the way was a little Mom & Pop store. My Mom and I would stop there all the time. There was the nicest man there who waited on us. He could have been the owner of the store. He went by the name of Oakey (O-key). I know that the store is long gone, but I sure would love to know the address of that little store. Does anyone remember Oakey? He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell.
My Mom worked downtown in Scranton at the Globe Department Store. Is that store gone too.? I would generally like to know the history of Dunmore and Scranton.
My dad made certain, when he rented a house for his family it was on rock. I remember we would drive by a coal area and there was this small mountain of coal burning and it smelt so bad. I heard from a cousin who use have a son living back there....that they fixed that.
I would appreciate it so much if you help me on my journey to my past.
Thank you,
Mary
