Gideon Sands

I hope that someone out there is still working on this family and can give me some clues. I am trying to help a friend find the parents of her 4th gr. grandfather, Gideon Sands. The census information for his children in Ripley county, Indiana suggest that he was born in Virginia. He died in 1838 and is on the 1830 census in Ripley Co. We also find a Gideon Sands on the 1820 Census in Hamilton Co., Ohio. His children were born in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Kentucky but I realize we can't always trust those birth states listed on the census. His first child was born 1790 which makes me think he was probably born in the 1770 time period.

Since finding the record about Sarah Sands, who had been disowned by the Quakers for having a son born out of wedlock, and seeing the will of Edmund Sands in Virgina who names a grandson, Gideon Sands the son of his daughter Sarah, I think there is a possiblity I am looking at the same person.

The problem is that I can find nothing to prove anything - it is all conjecture! Is anyone out there who knows anything about the Gideon who ended up in Ripley Co., Indiana and his ancestors?
