Allen's of Vermont - Pennsylvania - Ohio - Michigan including Puffers Woodwards
I am looking for the parentage of Samuel W. Allen and his wife Lydia Huddleston or Huddleson.
I find them in Mercer County, PA in the 1850 Census with their children. Mary, Matilda, Judy, Hiram and Susan Allen. It would appear that the Census Taker wrote VA. and overwrote it with VT. Samuel could not read nor write.
His daughter Mary J. Allen married in Suffield, Portage County, Ohio in Nov. 1851. Matilda, Mary's sister married to Silas Puffer in 1853. Silas Puffer was from Addison County, Vermont.
Another sister of Mary's was Sarah A. Allen who married Isaac Hunsicker (time and location unk.), secondly to Emmons Coulter or Courter in March 1882 in Montcalm County, MI
and thirdly to Enoch White in Dec. 1900 also in Montcalm County, MI.
Another sister to Mary, Sarah, and Matilda Allen) was Margaret Allen who married to William Shotwell in Arcadia, Lapeer County, MI, where Mary's husband James B. Woodward lived as well. Margaret married to Artemus Justice Conley in 1855 in Lapeer, MI.
We see Lydia (nee: Huddleston) Allen living with her daughter Margaret Allen-Conley, along with Judith (Margaret's sister) per the 1860 Census for Lapeer Twp., Michigan.
We see Samuel W. Allen in the 1870 Census in Atwater, Portage County, Ohio living with his daughter Matilda Allen-Puffer.
Consistently, throughout the documents Samuel W. Allen is indicated to have been born in VERMONT; his wife Lydia born in Penn. - Pa. - Pennsylvania.
Does anyone know of Samuel's parents ancestors, and or his wife's parents?
I am trying to find out more. Mary's father-in-law was Apollos Woodward aka Thomas A. Woodward or Woodard, a Cooper by trade I think. Apollos Woodward aka Thomas A. Woodward was blind by abt. 1843. We find him also in Sugar-creek,Venango County, PA. Some indication that Sarah Allen was born Jan. of 1828 in Washington County, PA.
Mary Allen Woodward died in Jordan Twp., Garfield, Montana on the 11th of September, 1926. Her husband James B. Woodward died in Columbia, Oregon in 1902.
Apollos/Thomas Woodward had two sons, Edward Mason Woodward (he married Sarah Hake in 1850 in Trumball County, OH where we find Apollos in the 1850 Census). The other son was James B. Woodward, a constable in Arcadia, Lapeer County, MI. Where are they in the 1860 Federal Census? What happened to Apollos Woodward? Are they Overseerer of the Poor Records for Arcadia and or Lapeer County, MI for the years 1854-1861 time frame? Where did Lydia Allen die? Her husband Samuel Allen?
Please communicate if you have ANY information (particularly) on the parentage of any of these persons.
