Quakertown Union Cemetery (Bucks County)- A Call to Action
If you have been to Quakertown Union Cemetery in the last 10 years, you know that it's been gradually falling into disrepair. I have been monitoring the situation closely, and have been helping when I can. However, this years' winter has been especially hard on the cemetery, and the scene I witnessed during yesterday's visit was appalling. The ground is sinking, and hundreds of stones have toppled over. There are also many "lakes" of water that fallen headstones are landing in.
Obviously, there's nothing that can be done about the land these people are buried in- but, we can help level the ground and put the toppled stones back on their bases. There is no official entity helping with this problem, only family members and volunteers who visit from time to time.
If you live in the area and/or have family buried in this cemetery please consider joining me in a clean-up weekend at the cemetery in June 2013. If you are interested in photos of the damage, or details about the clean-up, please contact me.
