Pennsylvania state birth and death records which are now open records and available at the State Archives in Harrisburg are in the process of being scanned by Ancestry.com. From what I've been told the first batch is expected to be online in early Spring. Once they are in a database it will be a lot easier to find who you are looking for. If you don't have access to Ancestry check with your local libraries to see if they have it.
It's a lot better than what it was like before I started the grassroots effort more than 5 years ago to get the state law changed that restricted the records so very much (we finally succeeded almost exactly one year ago). Now we're just waiting for them to be online. For more on this go to www.pahr-access.org
