joyce,thanks for the info ... freds age is questionable ,on some papers it was 1876,on some 1867,clerical errer ? or intentional?? heres the story.. fred first appeared in 1897-8, he enlisted in minnesota volunteer army for the span-am war ,the volunteer army didn"t see active duty, but were stationed at a national park ( douglas i think ) for the summer of 1898 ... from that time on freds life is documented as he married a rose holt & lived in waseca ,minn. & had children ... it is the pereod BEFORE..BEFORE .the joining we are in the dark about .. as he claimed to come from england ,a birth date of june 6,1867 appears on pension application .. i have tried looking in a lot of different places in uk but no fred, or parents ,, good luck..don
