He's my great-great-great-great grandfather. Baptized in Harworth, Nottinghamshire, England 25 March 1772. m. Jane Spencer 1800. Had at least 5 children: Mary, James, Sanford, Joseph, and John. He emigrated to the US around 1827-1830. I don't know where he landed. A biography of his son James says that Joseph "almost immediately went to Pennsylvania, where he invested in coal lands" and that he lived "to a ripe old age, and died in St. Clair, PA and is buried there." I have found only one record: his name on a petition by the citizens of Pottsville, PA to the US Congress to have their bank restored. I can find no record of his wife between 1830-1859, but she is living with James in Ipswich, MA on the 1860 census. She died a widow in 1863, so Joseph was gone by then. I have a pretty believable record of Jane and son John arriving at Philadelphia in 1830, but Joseph was not with them then. All the other children arrived in either Boston or NY and went to Ipswich, MA, where they all died and were buried. Please let me know if you have any information on Joseph. Thanks.
