Seabrooks (Cebrooks) to Brooks Transition

I have recently been told that my ancestor, James Brooks (or Seabrooks) born in 1802 in Pennsylvania, who married Mary J Carter in Lancaster Pennsylvania on 11 Sept 1827 at the First Presbyterian Church, used the name James Cebrooks or Seabrooks. When James and Mary moved to Macomb County Michigan, they ever after used the surname BROOKS. I am trying to learn more about when and why they changed their surname and would very much like to trace the ancestry of these relatives. I would be grateful to anyone who can assist me!
