Dear Jane,

Perhaps your Daniel is enumerated as Alexander LACHAT, age 34, landlord, born Switzerland and living in the second ward in Lock Haven, Clinton County in 1880. Perhaps his full name was Daniel Alexander or vice versa and at times he was listed in different ways. In a quick check, I didn't find Alexander in 1900 and Daniel's 1900 occupation as hotel keeper and age and location is consistent with being the same individual.

It appears for example that George L LACHAT is the same person as Leonard LACHAT and some other members of this family are named differently in the 1900 and 1910 censuses.

Good luck,
Karen
